Reducing wind and plosive noise

Outdoor shoots and hard consonants (“p”, “b”) can cause pops and rumble. Every mic ships with two wind protection options, and using the right one makes a big difference.

  • Keep the mic 10–15 cm (4–6 in) from your mouth — clipped to your collar or lapel near the mouth — and speak normally for the best recording quality.
  • Snap the foam windscreen over the mic head for light wind and everyday recording.
  • In stronger wind or open outdoor spaces, swap to the included furry deadcat windscreen — its dense fur breaks up wind gusts before they reach the mic capsule, eliminating most wind noise.
  • Position the mic below the mouth, pointing up.
  • Speak across the mic rather than directly into it for softer plosives.

Tip: for the best result outdoors, use the deadcat over the foam windscreen for maximum wind protection.
